They say going home is easy, and in all reality, it should be. Just not for me.
The small, one-horse town that gave me my roots, that made my soul thrive, is also the
place I never wanted to set foot in again. I left everything behind and never looked back.
Until now. With the death of the man who raised me, I’m forced to return to Boone.
Old wounds resurface, and heartache and loss trump everything once more.
Seeing the man who shattered my world the night of our high school graduation almost
brings me to my knees. Jessie, my once best friend and love of my life, ruined it all for
me…for us.
I’m back in Boone…and my secret is about to rattle the tiny town.

FIVE 🎩🎩🎩🎩🎩 hats from Britt!

I’m about to get all kinds of personal in this review, so if you’re just reading this to find out if Yesterday is Gone is a great read you can scroll past my personal bits for a more detailed explanation of “Yes, this book is wonderful!” But if you’d like to know why I’m pouring my heart out and crying like a baby in a book review keep reading.

HJ Bellus is a long time favorite author of mine. She’s one I don’t even need to read the blurb, I know I’m going to love it. No matter how different her books can be each one has found its own special place in my heart, but this book, this book is something even more special. You see, six days before I picked up this book the man who raised me, who was a rock throughout my entire life, who held my hand and wiped away my tears, my Pop Pop, he passed away. In the last six days I’ve cried so many different tears. Tears of grief, anger, happiness at memories. You name it there’s been a tear for it.

So I’m not going to lie, when I started this I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to make it through. But then the magic of HJ Bellus’ words took over. For the first time in almost a week my heart felt a little bit lighter and I connected with a character in a way I never have before with Jules. I’ll never be able to thank HJ enough for the bit of peace she gave me with this.

Now onto lighter stuff. No one does single parents or second chances as well as HJ Bellus does. Everything about this book will hit you right in the feels start to finish. It’s a nonstop ride of love in many forms. Beyond connecting to Jules on a whole other level, she’s genuinely a character that’s easy to love. Her down to earth personality and loving heart make her someone many people can relate to and had me cheering on her well deserved HEA with Jessie. Jessie though, he had me feeling all kinds of things. He went from someone I wanted to kick to a man I positively adored so fast it made my head spin. With some serious swoon and a whole lot of heart Yesterday is Gone is not only just a new favorite for me but will forever have a special place in my heart.

HJ Bellus is a small-town girl who loves the art of storytelling. When not making readers laugh or cry, she’s a part-time livestock wrangler that can be found in the middle of Idaho, shot gunning a beer while listening to some Miranda Lambert on her Beats and rocking out in her boots.
