I’m going to start with telling you now to get tissues because you’re going to need them. Lani absolutely ripped my heart out with this one, but even did that with a level of beauty that is utterly breathtaking. I full on ugly cried more than once during Rome and Izzy’s incredible story and it was worth every tear for how unbelievably amazing this book is. Even with the seriously deep emotions the bits of humor we all know and love from Lani still shine through causing more than one giggle to break through while reading.

I said it multiple times while reading this, and even after finishing it still rings true, Izzy is one of the best characters Lani has ever written. Heck, Izzy is one of the best characters I’ve ever read period. With a quiet strength and one of the most selfless and loving hearts I’ve ever seen she left me in awe quite frequently throughout the book.

The love that grows between Izzy and Rome is the kind that stays with you long after you’ve read every page. They quickly soared to the top of my all time favorites. I can’t even begin to explain the beauty that is Rome and Izzy, but what I can tell you is that you absolutely MUST READ this book!

FIVE 🎩🎩🎩🎩🎩 hats from Julia!

Why do you do this to me Lani??? How does LLV write such awe-inspiring characters? How does she completely break me with every single book, but also put me back together completely whole? How does she make me cry one second and then make me laugh the next? I think she’s magic. It’s the only plausible theory.

Where to begin? Rome, oh my Rome. I just want to grab him and never ever let go. He will break your heart, piss you off, make you laugh, make you smile, and make you fall head over heels in love with him. He endures so much heartache and pain, yet he still smiles. He still laughs. He still loves. He is the absolute perfect half to Izzy. They are truly soulmates. Izzy has had such a rough life. Yet she still continues on. Which just shows the strength she has. She doesn’t cower, she doesn’t blame the world for dealing her a crappy hand, she doesn’t use her struggles as a weapon. She continues on day to day and seems to find happiness when your think there’d be bitterness. She’s an amazing character who I want to be when I grow up.

Mess Me Up is everything. Loss, pain, love, acceptance, heartache, and happiness. It’s amazingly strong characters who inspire you. It’s astounding writing that you can’t look away from. And it’s everything you didn’t know you needed.

When Rome Pierce moved to Bear Bottom, Texas, it was his intention to lay low. To not be seen. To find a way to heal his body and soul—as well as his son’s.

Nobody would know by looking at him that he used to play professional football. Not with the Bare Bottom MC cut covering his back, and definitely not with his friendly smile completely obliterated.

No longer is there charm in each smooth word that comes out of his mouth. What’s left is an angry, bitter, scared man that’s terrified one day he’s going to wake up and his entire world is going to be gone.

Nobody knows what drove him to leave the game he loved—nobody but her.

She’s the one person that has helped him make it through the dark days and even darker nights. She’s the bright and shining star in his pitch-black sky.

And he doesn’t even know her name.

He should be afraid that she knows things that not anyone—not even his best friend—knows.

Yet, with each encounter, he gives what little bit of his soul remains, and before he knows it only two people on this earth—one dying, and one too afraid to live—make his life worth living.

Until one day he has to choose—the love of his life, or the life he brought into this world.

Two impossible situations. One decision that would change him forever.

I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 9, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.
