BLURB:
As Tampa Bay’s star center, Mark Carmelo’s life was hockey, and after a bitter and public break up, all he wanted to do was focus on the game.
Until he saw her.
The one that got away.
The one he thought he’d never see again.
For thirteen years, Stevie West drowned in her lackluster life. Recently divorced from her “roommate” with passionless benefits, she was ready to start over. On her own.
Until she ran into him.
The same man she’d met one year ago.
The temptation that had finally given her the courage to find herself again.
When lightning strikes twice, there’s no way to deny the chemistry it creates.
But with both of them still nursing old wounds, Mark and Stevie will have to find a way around the other’s defenses, a way to breakaway and score the one thing they never expected… love.
REVIEW:
Gah! What can I say about this book? Did I like it? No, I loved it! Am I surprised? Not even a little. I already knew this audiobook was going to be amazing because A. M. Johnson’s writing always is and the narrators are top notch! But being completely honest, I didn’t think it would be this fantastic. This audiobook has got to be in the top 10 audiobooks I’ve ever listened to.
Johnson flawlessly interweaves a love story with hockey and a beautiful message of second chances. Mark isn’t your typical alpha jock. He’s a good man who feels deeply and has been deeply hurt in the past. Sure he’s a sexy as hell hockey star, but he’s so much more. Stevie is probably now one of my favorite heroines ever. She’s so real and relatable and strong. But most of all I loved how these two characters loved one another. They loved each other for who they were at their core. Everything else was just the yummy sprinkles on the scrumptious sundae of a story.
Narration blew me away. Aaron Shedlock’s portaryal of Mark knocked the wind out of me in the best way and Tracy Marks’ narration of Stevie was nothing short of perfect. Aaron Shedlock had me in a perpetual state of swoon. I think he made me fall in love with Mark just about every other sentenced he uttered. Tracy Marks narrated with the perfect blend of vulnerability and badassery needed to bring Stevie to life and it was just magic. Together these narrators had an undeniable chemistry and connection to the story that only made it better. 5 Stars.
Great Review, I’ll have to listen now!
